1. Which is better – a driver only ½ taxi shield or a full protection taxi shield?

Designs of a driver only ½ shield , depending on design may leave the driver vulnerable to attacks. A knife can pass through the rear of the drivers’ seat with this design or openings at the sides of the shield. The Okan Taxi Shield is a full shield giving maximum protection to the driver.

2. Are taxi shields customer friendly?

Customers can enjoy a limousine type atmosphere while sitting in the back seat. Maximum legroom and an open feeling is achieved. Having the largest upper glass in the industry, Okan ensures that the patron will be very satisfied by the non-restricted view. The easy to use money tray allows effective payment of transactions from the back seat.

3. Should taxi shields be bulletproof?

How far do we go? Vehicles currently utilized as cabs are not constructed with bulletproof windshields, side and rear windshields. The door panels, roof panels etc. are not designed to bulletproof specifications.
The Okan Taxi Shield is designed to withstand physical attacks from the back seat, note most attacks to date on cab drivers are knife-yielding incidents. The Okan Taxi Shield is a proactive protection system deterring attacks from the back seat. A divider panel between the driver and rear passengers is the best way to protect drivers.
Bulletproof lexguard is available and can be incorporated in the Okan Taxi Shield. To stop a 44 magnum bullet 1-1/4” thick lexguard is required at an additional weight and
significant cost increase. As well the thickness of the glass impedes the clarity required for the on board camera, and muffles communication between the driver and passenger.
Multiple gunshots at close range or from modified high-powered artillery, bulletproof effectiveness cannot be guaranteed by the manufacturer. With this in mind, again we must stress, how far do we go?

4. How is the quality of communication with passengers?

Under most circumstances the Okan Taxi Shield allows for both passenger and driver to communicate without difficulty.

5. How is a fare paid? (cash and cashless)

A tamper proof steel money tray mounted to the passenger side glass allows transactions of both cash and credit card to be transferred from back to front and vice versa. If debit systems are to be used, debit swipe units can be passed through the centre slide window in a partial open position, locking at a few inches to maintain protection. This window can be fully closed once the transaction is completed.

6. How is air conditioning or heat to rear passenger compartment affected?

Ventilation openings between top frame, side wing glass and rear passenger foot wells (under front seat) allow proper circulation of heating and air conditioning as required.

7. Are taxi shields reusable?

8. What is involved to change from car to car – model to model?

Initial installation of the Okan Taxi Shield takes about two hours by one of Okan’s authorized technicians. Self-installment can take up to four or five hours by a novice do it yourselfer. We highly recommend that an authorized Okan technician install the units to guarantee a professional installation. The removal and reinstallation of this unit by an authorized Okan technician takes approximately two to three hours.
